The abridged piano Sonata in B♭ minor, Op. 35: I. Grave – Doppio movimento by Frédéric Chopin.
Frédéric Chopin’s piano Sonata in B♭ minor, Op. 35, popularly known as “The Funeral March,” was completed in 1839 at Nohant, near Châteauroux in France. However, the third movement, from which comes the Sonata’s common nickname, had been composed as early as 1837. The Sonata is considered one of the greatest masterworks of the nineteenth century. The first movement, Grave – Doppio movimento features a stormy opening theme and a gently lyrical second theme.
